There's no place like home

Crossed the border ever so easily yesterday. Got pulled aside to participate in a little training exercise for a sniffing dog (training for the dog, not us). We miss our dog so much this was actually fun. Spent the night last night with Tony, a good friend of Alan's, and her husband Glen, and their dog Grace and their cat Grendal. So so wonderful to see friends. To have a long conversation in English with people besides ourselves! To drink tap water. To be able to read the road signs. To drive really fast without worrying about falling into a pothole. Soft toilet paper! Warm water! Food that wasn't wrapped in a tortilla. Petting a dog who isn't completely coated in years of ground-in dust. Good coffee. Ah! I love this country!

Only had the radio on for about twenty minutes, though, when the sound of Bush speaking like a moron reminded us it's not all good. Still, we're so happy to be home. It's a good reminder that while it's great to roam, I know where home is.

A couple weeks of visiting friends and family scattered around the country ... then back to Minneapolis. Hopefully the current onslaught of snow will be done by then. But even if it's not, it will be good to get home. Oh geez, speaking of that, I guess we have to find a place to live. Hmm, time to start thinking about real life again.
